ABOUT THIS COFFEE

A modern dark roast for people who love a classic, rich cup. Big chocolate, a nutty depth, and a little jam sweetness on the finish, all smooth with no burnt or bitter bite. A blend of natural Honduras and washed Mexico. Great on drip, even better as cold brew.

ORIGIN

Mexico

Washed - Chiapas
Chiapas is the southernmost region of Mexico. The mountains of this region span into bordering Guatemala and much of this tropical forest is the protected Triunfo Biosphere Reserve. This area is humid and tropical, inhabited by small communities of producers who have formed cooperatives to gain stronger representation in the coffee market. These producers take pride in their land, growing coffee organically through methods passed down from generation to generation.

The farms contributing to Triunfo Verde Co-op are located in the buffer zone of El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve. The biosphere is located in the highlands of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas. El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve is one of the world’s most diverse forest reserves. This reserve contains Mesoamerica’s largest continuous cloud forest, and it serves as a refuge to thousands of plant and animal species. El Triunfo is a rare and valuable sanctuary that requires continued protection. All the coffee they produce is shade-grown, and biological corridors are created in order to facilitate bird and animal migration.

Triunfo Verde Co-op comprises 346 members and is managed by Hugo Lares, with quality control supervision by Calixto Guillén. Calixto is a highly motivated leader and is committed to quality: He has been very excited about the microlot project between TFV and Cafe Imports.

DR Congo

Washed - Kivu

This region of the Democratic Republic of Congo surrounds lake Kivu and neighbors Rwanda, Uganda, and Burundi. The region is divided into three subregions: Ituri, Nord-Kivu, and Sud-Kivu. Sitting directly on the equator, Kivu one of the most diverse in terms of elevation, flora, and climate. Most of the region's land would be considered a tropical savannah, but the high elevations of the Virunga mountains are temperate, rainy, and volcanic creating an ideal climate for coffee production.

These specific offerings come from a group of 51 pygmy women who live and farm in the villages of Mishebere and Ruhunde in the Kahele territory. Historically, Pygmy people have faced terrible discrimination and disenfranchisement, including being forced into slavery and/or low-paying work. SOPACDI has started this project to source and keep separate coffee from this group of growers in order to provide them a better income from specialty coffee as well as more financial independence and autonomy. The producers each own an average of 0.5 hectares and deliver coffee in cherry form to the washing station. There is a price premium paid directly to these women farmers to use as they see fit.

Why roasted to order tastes better

Most grocery store coffee was roasted weeks or months before it hit the shelf. By the time you open it, the aromatics that make coffee taste sweet and complex are mostly gone.

We don't roast ahead. Your bag is roasted after you order, in a small batch, and shipped within 1–3 business days. You get it while it's at its best.

Fresher coffee means more sweetness, more flavor and less of that flat, bitter taste.

Why Customers Choose Fringe Blend

Everything you want in a great everyday coffee, without the guesswork.

Questions? We've got answers

Got questions? We’ve got answers!

What makes Tapestry coffee taste better?

Freshness and care. We roast in small batches after you order, so your coffee isn't sitting in a warehouse losing flavor. And we're coffee shop owners, so every coffee has to hold up behind our own bar first.

Is it actually fresh?

This coffee is roasted after you place your order and shipped at peak freshness. We do not ship old inventory or warehouse coffee, so your bag arrives fresh and ready to brew.

Whole bean or ground?

Both. Choose whole bean if you have a grinder (it stays fresh longest), or ground for drip if you don't.

How should I brew it?

Check Recommended brewing methods in the product details above for what we like best with this coffee. Our brew guide on this page has starting ratios for espresso, drip, French press and cold brew.

What if I don't love it?

Don't love it? We'll make it right. Just reach out and we'll take care of you.

How fast will it get to me?

We roast your coffee after you order and ship within 1–3 business days. Most orders arrive 2–5 days after that. Orders over $40 ship free.
