Small-batch roasted in Minnesota

ABOUT THIS COFFEE

The coffee we built our cafés around. Abstract is the espresso we pull every day at Tapestry, and it's just as easy to love as a regular cup of coffee at home.

In a mug: silky smooth and sweet, with notes of honey and berry. No bitterness, no fuss.

As espresso: rich and full-bodied with plenty of sweetness and a bright citrus finish. It's great on its own and holds up in lattes and cappuccinos.

Iced or cold brew: smooth, sweet and super refreshing.

Not sure where to start? Grab a bag whole bean if you have a grinder, or ground if you brew drip. You really can't go wrong.

ABOUT TAPESTRY

At Tapestry Coffee, we believe great coffee starts with care at every step. We source high-quality coffees from trusted partners and roast them in small batches to order for maximum freshness. Every bag is crafted with intention, focusing on flavor, transparency, and coffee that is easy to understand, easy to enjoy, and built to fuel your day.

ORIGIN

Sourced from smallholder farms in Huila, Colombia and Kayon Mountain Farm in Guji, Ethiopia — traceable all the way down to the farm.

Colombia — Huila

Abstract starts with coffee from Huila, one of Colombia's most respected growing regions. We look for lots that bring sweetness, bright fruit, and a solid base of cocoa and toffee — the backbone of Abstract's flavor.

These beans come from smallholder farms — often 10 to 30 different growers whose coffee is cupped and blended together for a consistent, balanced profile. We buy this coffee through Cafe Imports at $4.53/lb for the green coffee — well above commodity pricing, and a number we're happy to share, because we think transparency is part of doing this right.

Ethiopia — Guji

The rest of the blend comes from Kayon Mountain Farm, high in the forested Guji region of southern Ethiopia — the birthplace of coffee itself, where growing and drinking it has been part of daily life for centuries, not a crop introduced from outside.

Kayon Mountain has been run by Ismael Hassen Aredo and his family since 2012. It's 500 hectares, about 300 of it planted in coffee, grown in the region's rich red highland soil at high altitude — conditions that give this coffee its fruit, dark chocolate, and light floral character.

Ismael's farm employs 25 full-time and 300 seasonal workers, and pays above local rates to keep skilled pickers coming back year after year. The farm also funds transportation for workers and supports local schools — the kind of long-term relationship we look for in the coffee we buy.

Why it's blended this way

Colombia brings the sweetness and body; Ethiopia brings the fruit and florals. Together, they give Abstract the balance that makes it work as a straight shot of espresso, in a pot of drip, or over ice — without needing milk or sugar to smooth it out.

HOW TO BREW IT

Drip & pour over: start at 1:16 (1 g coffee to 16 g water). Go 1:15 for a richer cup, 1:17 for a lighter one.

French press: 1:14 to 1:15, steep about 4 minutes.

Espresso: start around 1:2 (18 g in, 36 g out) in 25–30 seconds. Give the beans about 5 days off roast before pulling shots.

Cold brew: 1:8 concentrate, steep 12–18 hours in the fridge, then dilute to taste.

Use filtered water and grind right before brewing.

What it tastes like

Honey. Berry. Cacao.

Sweet up front like honey, a little berry brightness in the middle, and a smooth cacao finish. It's balanced enough to drink black and has enough body to cut right through milk.

This is the espresso behind every latte, cappuccino and americano we pour in our cafés. At home it's just as easy in a drip machine or as cold brew.

Why People Love Abstract

coffee cooling in cooling tray of coffee roaster

Why roasted to order tastes better

Most grocery store coffee was roasted weeks or months before it hit the shelf. By the time you open it, the aromatics that make coffee taste sweet and complex are mostly gone.

We don't roast ahead. Your bag is roasted after you order, in a small batch, and shipped within 1–3 business days. You get it while it's at its best.

Fresher coffee means more sweetness, more flavor and less of that flat, bitter taste.

Questions? We've got answers

Got questions? We’ve got answers!

What makes Tapestry coffee taste better?

Freshness and care. We roast in small batches after you order, so your coffee isn't sitting in a warehouse losing flavor. And we're coffee shop owners, so every coffee has to hold up behind our own bar first.

Is it actually fresh?

This coffee is roasted after you place your order and shipped at peak freshness. We do not ship old inventory or warehouse coffee, so your bag arrives fresh and ready to brew.

What does Abstract taste like?

Abstract is smooth and balanced with notes that remind us of honey, berry and cacao. It's sweet enough to enjoy black, with enough body to stand up beautifully to milk.

Will it work in my espresso machine or pour over?

Yes. This coffee works well as an espresso and in espresso-based drinks like lattes and cappuccinos. It extracts evenly and has enough structure to hold up in milk without tasting harsh. When dialing in this coffee for espresso, keep in mind the tasting notes of Honey, Berry, Cacao as that will impact the espresso and approach to dialing in espresso.

If you are new to espresso, check out our blog post about how to dial in espresso or ways to make better espresso at home.

Is it acidic or bitter?

This coffee is roasted for balance and approachability. It is smooth, well-rounded, and designed to avoid sharp acidity or overpowering bitterness.

Whole bean or ground?

Both. Choose whole bean if you have a grinder (it stays fresh longest), or ground for drip if you don't.

What if I don't love it?

Don't love it? We'll make it right. Just reach out and we'll take care of you.

How fast will it get to me?

We roast your coffee after you order and ship within 1–3 business days. Most orders arrive 2–5 days after that. Orders over $40 ship free.

Can I subscribe?

Yes. You can subscribe to this coffee and have it delivered on a regular schedule. Coffee subscriptions are flexible, offer free shipping, and can be changed or canceled at any time.
