Recommended Brewing Methods

Abstract was originally designed as our espresso blend! We use it at our coffee shops for all espresso drinks; however, it truly shines in almost any brew method.

We would primarily recommend it for espresso, cold brew, or filtered coffee.

Brewing Guide

To get the best out of this coffee we always recommend this recipe as a stating point

  • Brew with a 1:16 ratio (one gram of coffee to every 16 grams of water).
  • Use water that is between 198 - 204 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Adjust your grind for a 3-4 minute brew time. (The finer the grind, the longer it will take to brew)

Coffee Origin Info

Colombia

Huila - Castillo, Caturra & Colombia

Colombian coffee is among the most recognizable and most dynamic in the world, with multiple growing regions whose distinct yet consistently crowd-pleasing profiles reflect the various microclimates that exist in this large country. We source workhorse coffees from various of these growing regions, looking for a cup that contains a nice balance of sweetness, fruity effervescence, and a foundation of cocoa and/or toffee. Most Gran Galope offerings are a blend of coffees from between 10 and 30 smallholder farms, each with comparable cup characteristics and score. Coffees from Huila are cupped and purchased in Pitalito; coffees from Cauca are cupped and purchased in Popayán; and coffees from Nariño are cupped and purchased in both Pasto and La Unión.

This coffee was sourced through Cafe Imports, and it was purchased as green coffee at a price point of $4.53 USD/LBS.

Ethiopia

Natural Guji - Kedir Hassen at Sibu Trading - Oromia

Buliye station is a drying station that only produces naturally processed coffee. Owned and operated by Kedir Hassen at Sibu Trading that oversees a number of washing and drying stations in Southern Ethiopia, we taste the quality that Kedir and his teams at Sibu Trading put into the processing of the coffee delivered from the neighboring kebeles.

Buliye is one of those coffees that hits all ends of the spectrum for folks looking for natural processed coffees. It’s heavy on the palette, has some dense sweetness and lovely bright berry-like acidity that reminds us of grape and raspberry. This coffee is everything we look for in a natural processed coffee as well. It’s vibrant and dynamic with a very clean structure.

I really love this coffee! Makes a very sweet and delicious espresso. Also brews well as a filter coffee for a nice rich morning cup.
